SONGWRITING

Course Overview

Songwriting explores the basics of music & songwriting in various styles. Students will learn how to create music live and digitally with various projects throughout the year, culminating in a mini-portfolio.

Prior music experience recommended. Open to 10-12th grade students

Playing an Instrument

We will learn the basics of the piano. This instrument is the most effective for songwriters giving you access to melody and accompaniment writing. If you already know how to play guitar that can be utilized as well.

Digital music

We will use midi-keyboards and various software programs to create digital music as well as learn to record and mix your own.

Lyric Writing

Lyric writing is complex. We will explore lyric writing in various projects and learn to apply melodies to your work.
